  • Step 2: Obtain Student Visa

  • If you are holding an American Passport or Permanent resident card. For Singapore, you don't have to obtain a visa.

  • If you are F-1 student, Please obtain student pass in your country, not in the US.

  • Step 4: Get your offer and Accommodation.

Offer: If you are accepted by the National University of Singapore, you will be given the offer via NUS email around Mid-June.

Accommodation: There are mainly three different types of accommodations at NUS: halls, colleges, and student residences.

The application for on-campus accommodation opens in the middle of June. You will be able to choose top three preferences. Before selecting your accommodation, you should go to their websites and see what they offer.

Here are the details: Here are details: https://uhms.nus.edu.sg/Pre-Matstudents/

  • Step 3: NUS Application

Here are following steps to apply for NUS, but plz make sure you are nominated as an exchange student by MIX office via email.

REVIEW APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Review the application instructions listed on the web page here, as well as the information below from NUS and documents that have been attached to this email.

Additional information from NUS:

a. Workload requirements: Exchange students are required to take a minimum workload of 12 modular credits (approximately 3 modules) per semester in order to be eligible for a Student’s Pass (Student Visa). The list of available modules can be found at this link http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/info/ng/NG-Modules.pdf(please note the list of modules will be updated in March 2017).  Students are advised to request as many relevant courses as possible (up to 10) on their online application to increase their chances of securing the required modules.

b. Module restrictions: Undergraduate exchange students are encouraged to consider Level 1000 to 3000 modules. Level 4000 modules are mostly reserved for NUS graduating students.

Modules of Level 5000 and above are graduate modules and are not offered to undergraduate students. The graduate modules found in the module list are reserved for students coming to the specific graduate exchange agreement.

NUS is not able to guarantee any module for incoming exchange students. Therefore, it is important for all students to read the module restrictions at NUS before applying for the exchange. The list of limited or restricted modules can be found at this link http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/education-at-nus/non-graduating-programme.html#l3.

Business, Economics, Law, Psychology, and Political Science modules are oversubscribed in NUS and the probability of securing these modules is low. Exchanges students should avoid selecting these modules.

In particular, with effect from AY2017/18, NUS Business School will only consider undergraduates with the single major in Business. Double major students will not be considered for enrollment with our Business School. In addition, Business students who applied for full year exchange will only be considered for Business modules for one out of the two semesters of exchange at NUS.

c. Housing: On-campus housing is not guaranteed at NUS. If students require on-campus housing, they must indicate that they are “Exchange” students and select “Yes” for housing in their initial application in order to be considered for on-campus accommodation.  Students who have correctly indicated the above will receive instructions on how and when to apply for housing in their Acceptance Letter from Registrar’s Office.

Prospective exchange students are encouraged to do their research on the housing options available to them, and ensure that they are satisfied with all aspects of the accommodation before committing to staying on- or off-campus.

Students will be notified of their housing status as early as possible, and the attached Information Sheet recommends various on and off-campus housing options. Otherwise, students may refer to NUS Office of Student Affair’s guides for on-campus (http://nus.edu.sg/osa/has/non-graduating/hostel-options) and off-campus (http://nus.edu.sg/osa/has/other-accommodation) housing.

d. Application: The online application system at https://myaces.nus.edu.sg/ngAdmForm/ will open from 28 March to 22 April 2017 for Semester 1 and Full-year intake.  Students will not be able to submit an online application before 28 March 2017. All deadlines mentioned in the official communication from NUS are based on Singapore time (GMT + 8 hours).

  • Step 5: Apply for visa through SOLAR system ( For NUS student only)

After you get an offer from NUS, soon after you will get an application number from school to apply for student visa. The step is really easy, just follow the instructions in the email. Please make sure you make correct payments ( it includes the processing fee and issuance fee)

One thing is important: if you are not US resident, you need to print the IPA form which the school officer will send to you once you finish the application process. Please double check the two things you have to bring: IPA letter and Passport before you leave for Singapore.

I also recommend that bring your passport photocopy, visa photo and more copies of the important documents that school sent you because there will be upcoming processes you need to complete when you register for school.

  • Step 6: Safe Trip

  • Bring summer clothes: Singapore is close to the equator. The weather is super nice there ( basically same with Hawaii)

  • Make sure to bring the adapter, router, and cable for the network (NUS school housing does not cover network, so you have to bring your personal ones.)

  • Check your email regularly in case of missing something important.

  • Be active and positive: NUS accepts a great number of students from all over the world. Here you can make friends from really TOP Schools, especially for Asian schools. If you are interested in learning Chinese, I strongly recommend you to making friends with them.  ( PS: I am from China. I get to know many excellent students from Asian countries. I am super happy to meet them as if I am staying in my home county.)

  • ADD/DROP your courses: You will get a packet from Business orientation. please make sure your courses are good and appropriate for you. Do not push hard to yourself. Please enjoy your study trip there.
